July 18, 2008 - 27 TONS of good-will treats to California Guard members and their families!
SupportOurTroops.Org, CFC#31529, is right now delivering shipping 27 TONS popcorn good-will gifts to California national guard units and families. That's 60 pallets. $224,538 worth! And it's all marked with colorful "thank-you" signage. And that's on top of hundreds of tons shipped by SupportOurTroops.Org to deployed California Troops all around the world.
"Who are these €˜troops?' " said Martin Boire, Chairman of SupportOurTroops.Org. "Why, they are our neighbors, who are deployed to protect us. What a fun way to show them how much we think of them, right now tractor-trailers are up and down the roadways the length of the state delivering pallets of free microwave popcorn treats for kids camps and events. Each case of popcorn comes labeled with colorful €˜thank-you' signage. What a tremendous gesture of good will. A warm positive way to show them how much we care."
These days a lot of the troops who are deployed to protect us and our families are our neighbors -- members of the guard. And our deployed neighbors have spouses and kids here at home. This is a simple fun way to show them we care. Especially their kids. We want them to know that we care about them and know that they are there. These free microwave popcorn treats will be used at summer camps for their kids, retreats which give returning troops and their families some decompression time together, and at family assistance centers which help with various needs.
California Support Our Troops® member Nancy Cunningham said "We want them surrounded with expressions of good will from us. This microwave popcorn is a simple fun wholesome expression of our awareness of, belief in, and gratitude for their spouses and parents. It is a simple easy way for people to get involved"

Who did this?
SupportOurTroops.org, and its cooperating partners the Boy Scouts of America, and the Trails End Popcorn Company teamed up to pull this off. Said Support Our Troops® Chairman Martin C. Boire: "kids, you want to know how to pull off something this huge? Get into Scouting, you'll get to organize hundreds of things." Where do you think I learned how to do this?
Who manufactured it?
Nothing but the best for our troops! Trail's End popcorn is known as America's Best Popcorn. It is produced by Weaver Popcorn Company, one of the largest producers and manufacturers of popcorn products in the world. An 80-year-old, family-owned company located in Indiana, Weaver Popcorn distributes its products in more than 90 countries.

From the American People! The Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts went door to door across America and asked people if they would like to donate $25 of popcorn treats to the troops. And at $25 a pop this many people did.

Guest Commentary for reprint and circulationLet's all go out and celebrate our liberty, and while we do let's each take note that it's the troops who gained it for us in the American Revolution and protect it for us today.
So let's celebrate the 4th of July by honoring the troops.
Over 90% of us Americans have never served in the military. As Chairman of SupportOurTroops.Org, I am one of them, representative of the rest. And on behalf of all of us whom the troops protect, I thank them.To my fellow civilians I posit the following question: Your neighbor leaves his family to go off and protect your family; morally what you should do for his family? For her family?
Do we leave them to it alone ?
Of course not. These "troops" are actually our deployed neighbors who leave their families at home and go half way around the world to many different places to look out for our liberties, livelihoods, and businesses. And I believe that no matter where the troops are ordered to go, good Americans always stick up for the folks who stick up for them.
What, then, should we do for him, for her? We step up for them the way they have stepped up for all of us. We show them what we are made of. We show them we're with them. That we are willing to stand with them who stand for us. They Support Us - Let's Support Them!
As Chairman of Support Our Troops® I see daily the needs of the troops and their stalwart families. And I daily witness the outpouring wonder of American individuals and groups who have such affection and appreciation for the troops.
We should all work to make the troops as proud of us as we are of them. Individual citizens are doing remarkable things for them all across this country. Major companies should do a great deal more, since they prosper within the domestic tranquility secured by the troops. Each of us can answer this call to excellence in the way we best can.
We civilians need to make ourselves more worthy of the burden our neighbors bear for us. It is impossible to do enough for these amazing people. We need to show them we are worthy of their actions. That we will take the domestic freedom they preserve for us and make something yet grander of this National American Family.
Now is the time for all good citizens to come to the aid of their troops and their families. The load which the troops and their families carry is our load. They carry it for us. The time is right to stand for those who stand for all of us. To carry the load with them. To form a new bond with our fellows who serve in the military and protect us and our families. To look out for them and their families the way they looking out for all of us. Real men and women do not build themselves up upon the backs of their fellows. Good townsfolk do not leave their sheriff out in the street alone. They stand with him, they stand together.
So let's celebrate the 4th of July this year by honoring the troops and renewing our moral covenant with them.
This Independence Day let's each commit to personally do something tangible for the amazing men and women who protect our independence daily. They Support Us - Let's Support Them!
Happy Independence Day, have some fun, and may God bless our amazing troops and their families.
