Greenhouses Open as New Model for Iraqi Agriculture

FORWARD OPERATING BASE MAHMUDIYAH, Iraq, July 1, 2008 – A series of four greenhouses officially opened June 28 in Mahmudiyah marking a step forward in revitalizing and modernizing Iraqi agriculture. "The greenhouses are definitely a dominant feature in the area; there is nothing else around them, and they can be seen well into the distance,” said Army Capt. Benjamin Neusse, civil-military operations officer with 3rd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment. “Hopefully, it gives people the impression that progress is being made along agricultural lines.” Learn More.

U.S. special operations warriors serving in western Afghanistan’s volatile Herat province have a unique security-enhancing capability in their own backyard - they operate the Shindand Agricultural Experiment Station,which provides agricultural skills to Afghans to jump start agricultural production in the Shindand district. ARLINGTON, VA – The Department of Defense has announced the 2008 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award recipients.  The Freedom Award is the highest recognition given by the U.S. Government to employers for their outstanding support of their employees who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.  Fifteen employers nationwide are receiving the top honor for guard and reserve support.
