Our Support Our Troops! Specialty License Plate is Completed in Tennessee!
Written by SOT Staff
Many try; few succeed. The Support Our Troops! specialty license plate has succeeded -- the 1,100 signups have been reached and filed within the statutory time period! That completes the last statutory requirement for creating the plate and making it available for normal purpose by Tennesseans in tag offices statewide. The lists were checked against the USPS database to assure accuracy and turned into the Tennessee DMV in mid-May.
Now SOT® is working on the plate artwork with the Tennessee license plate plant. When completed, the plate will look the image above. That look ties it to our trademark Support Our Troops! license plates in many other states, and amplifies and cross-connects everything for maximum effectiveness in showing support and doing things for the deployed troops.
Many thanks are due Attorney and Lobbyist Matt Scanlan in Nashville, for leading us through the legislative and legal process of getting this great plate created. Without him this plate would not exist.
Many thanks are due Dave Cooley of Cooley Public Strategies for gathering these sign-ups in a prompt and professional manner. Without his help this plate would not exist.
We expect this great new plate to be available for normal purchase by the public in tag offices statewide starting around mid-June.
On behalf of all of the troops and families sacrificing to protect all of our families, thank-you to everyone who helped make this happen for them!
They support us – let’s support them!™

Why did Performance Health do it?

We are honored to be able to support them and are grateful for their dedication and sacrifice,†stated Jeff Mathers, Product Manager for Performance Health / Hygenic Corporation. “We hope this donation provides relief for those suffering with aches and pains as a result of their physically challenging commitment. I know they’ll get it to the deployed troops who need it most. I personally hope any other veteran who is in a position to donate material or money to SupportOurTroops.Org will do so.â€
What do the troops think about such things?

Said Support Our Troops, Inc. Chairman Martin C. Boire, “It is our belief that we can best serve the troops by supporting all groups who are trying to do anything for them.â€
The military needed more storage space in order to be able to continue to accept and receive needed and desired morale, welfare and recreation goods.
What to do, what to do.
Well, our defined mission is to support them.
So SupportOurTroops® bought a 40’ metal cargo container, and shipped it over.
It went by rail to a U.S. port, then by commercial freighter to Karachi Peshawar and Peshawar - Torkham (Border between Pak and Afghan) then Jalalabad (a Province of Afghanistan and Jalalabad) to Kabul. A tremendous amount of logistics, and customs clearances were involved from Pakistan and Afghanistan Foreign Ministries to make this happen.
It is now making the final leg of the trip, and should be there in about a week.
A tough complex undertaking, but we believe in stepping up for the troops like they step up for all of us. No task is too hard to do for those who daily do the impossible for all of us.
Support Our Troops put vinyl signage on the sides stating “This storage container is a gift from Support Our Troops® to be used for any purpose as determined by the base commander or his designee.â€
So now storage space is available and they will to be able to accept needed and desired items from any group sending it their way.
Thanks guys and we’re with you!
When the idea was first presented to Walter Reed a worker there told Martin Boire, CEO of SupportOurTroops.Org “every room has a small refrigerator by the soldier’s bedside, and we’re going to put a jar in each one, and during the day while they’re laying there recuperating, they’ll be able to take a fork and feel that wonderful taste in their mouth. It’s going to be a wonderful treat and spot of enjoyment for them.â€
And now that the monthly deliveries are about to start, Walter Reed coordinator Linda Rasnake says “I am SO excited about the Peaches that are coming our way! I have told so many of our Wounded Warriors and Family members about the shipments coming in and they are literally asking me daily when they will be here! I am going to be starting a cooking class for our Wounded Warriors and the first thing on the dessert menu for me to teach is PEACH COBBLER!!!â€
Â
Anyone who has ever been in the hospital knows how simple things like comfort food can take on a very large meaning and a bright spot in a long, tedious day.  And it’s not just the peaches. It’s the message being delivered that we all know the soldier is there, care about him or her, and care enough to send them something to better their stay and let them know we are thinking about them and hoping the best for them. Is this a great country or what?
Did you know that the Walter Reed Army Medical Center is 101 years old? And returning home through its beds you will find America’s best. Unselfish. Brave. Willing to stand up for us, even when large blocks of “us†vacillate and prevaricate. The men and the women with the moral fortitude to step out into the street and protect all of us and our spouses and our kids.  At Walter Reed you will meet absolutely amazing people. Not pretenders. The real deal.
Walter Reed is located in Washington, D.C. and serves more than 150,000 active and retired personnel from all branches of the military. In 2011 Walter Reed will be combining with the Bethesda naval hospital by 2011 to form the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
This story will be updated.
