Do you know someone who is?  A neighbor perhaps?

Are you a veteran? Do you know a veteran?

Do you want to be around people who have done what you've done?

You  need to link up with your local veteran groups.

They're called veterans service organizations -- because they serve you, and through them you can continue to serve. 

Do you have any idea how much these VSOs can do for you?  The benefits?  How these organizations can represent you?

The organizations listed alphabetically below provide camaraderie, association, support, and myriad invaluable services to veterans.  Contact them today!

The American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, mutual-help, war-time veterans organization. A community-service organization which now numbers nearly 3 million members -- men and women -- in nearly 15,000 American Legion Posts worldwide. These Posts are organized into 55 Departments -- one each for the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, France, Mexico, and the Philippines.

A nationwide cadre of AMVETS national service officers (NSOs) offers information, counseling and claims service to all honorably discharged veterans and their dependents concerning disability compensation, hospitalization, rehabilitation, pension, education, employment, and other benefits. Accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs, AMVETS NSOs are trained in all aspects of veterans' benefits and are knowledgeable about changes in VA regulations, entitlements, policies and procedures. Each NSO will personally develop and manage claims to ensure his or her clients receive the maximum benefits to which they are legally entitled. Our national service officers also provide representation at VA hearings if appeals are warranted. The assistance we provide is free of charge, and you are not required to be an AMVETS member to receive it.

The American Ex-Prisoners of War organization is a national organization for American citizens who were captured by the enemy. Membership is open to all former prisoners of war from any theater in any war, all former civilian internees and to the families of such persons. There is no such thing as an "associate" member and we have no auxiliaries. Each and every member is entitled to all privileges of membership.

AUSA is a private, non-profit educational organization that supports America's Army - Active, National Guard, Reserve, Civilians, Retirees and family members. AUSA provides numerous Professional Development Opportunities at a variety of events both local and national.

BVA is a veteran’s service organization exclusively dedicated to serving America's blind and visually impaired veterans. Veterans don't have to lose their vision during military service to qualify for BVA assistance, nor is membership a prerequisite for any service.  BVA assist blinded veterans and their families to cope with vision loss, and help blinded veterans lead a normal life with blindness. The BVA Florida Regional Group is an all-volunteer staffed organization.  BVA assist in filing VA claims, vision assistive   technology, Job search, offers scholarship programs, and works hand in hand with visual impairment service teams in the VA.

The Central Florida Veterans, Inc. is a coalition of veterans' organizations, individual veterans, and concerned citizens, dedicated to the purpose of providing a non-partisan umbrella organization that facilitates communication and coordination with all other Central Florida veterans' organizations. The CFVI strives to ensure that Central Florida veterans are kept abreast of current local, state, and national events and serves as a strong leader in the community in support of all veterans' civic, charitable, patriotic and fraternal initiatives and programs. Regardless of service, CFVI strives to support activities and programs that reflect positive recognition and appreciation of all veterans who have served in the United States uniformed services.

NACVSO's membership will actively promote the rights of veterans and dependents of the United States through a progressive legislative platform. We will work collaboratively with the Department of Veterans Affairs and other nationally chartered veterans organizations to assure that veterans and their dependents receive the entitlements they deserve for the sacrifices they endured.

With more than 1.2 million members, Disabled American Veterans is an organization of disabled veterans who are focused on building better lives for disabled veterans and their families.

The organization accomplishes this goal by providing free assistance to veterans in obtaining benefits and services earned through their military service. It is fully funded through its membership dues and public contributions. It is not a government agency and receives no government funds.

A Congressionally chartered, non-profit organization that represents the interests of the Sea Service community before the U.S. Congress, the Association’s membership is comprised of current and former enlisted members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard. FRA was chartered in 1924 and, after more than 80 years, remains dedicated to its primary mission of serving the interests of Sea Service personnel.

In addition to its legislative advocacy efforts, FRA assists its members with career problems by maintaining close liaison with the Departments of Defense, Veterans Affairs, Homeland Security, and other government agencies. FRA continues to educate members of Congress, many of whom have little or no military experience, on the challenges facing career personnel.

FRA presents a strong, unified voice to ensure that enlisted issues are heard by Congress and urges support for legislation to increase pay and benefits.

To organize, promote and maintain for benevolent and charitable purposes an association of persons who have seen honorable service during the Korean War at any time between June 25, 1950 and 31 January 1955, both dates inclusive, and of certain other persons, the particular qualifications for membership to be set forth in the By-laws of the Korean War Veterans Association.

-To grant charters to groups of members at large of the Association.

-To provide a means of contact and communication among the members of the Association.

-To promote the establishment of, and to establish war and other memorials commemorative of any person or persons who served in the Korean War.

-To aid needy Association members and their wives and children, and the widows and children of persons who were members at the time of their death.

-To establish and maintain a national headquarters.

-To do any and all things necessary or proper for the accomplishment of the foregoing business and objects of the Association, including, for such purposes, to contract and pay for personal and other services, to contract for, buy, take by deed, gift or devise, hold, possess, manage, borrow, rent, lease, loan, assign, convey, sell, and dispose of in any manner real and personal property, and to act as trustee, or be a beneficiary of a trust.

Members of the Marine Corps League join together in camaraderie and fellowship for the purpose of preserving the traditions and promoting the interests of the United States Marine Corps, banding together those who are now serving in the United States Marine Corps and those who have been honorably discharged from that service that they may effectively promote the ideals of American freedom and democracy, voluntarily aiding and rendering assistance to all Marines and former Marines and to their widows and orphans; and to perpetuate the history of the United States Marine Corps and by fitting acts to observe the anniversaries of historical occasions of particular interest to Marines.

The Paralyzed Veterans of America, a congressionally chartered veterans service organization founded in 1946, has developed a unique expertise on a wide variety of issues involving the special needs of our members— veterans of the armed forces who have experienced spinal cord injury or dysfunction.

-PVA will use that expertise to be the leading advocate for:
-Quality health care for our members,
-Research and education addressing spinal cord injury and dysfunction,
-Benefits available as a result of our members’ military service,
-Civil rights and opportunities which maximize the independence of our members.

To enable PVA to continue to honor this commitment, we must recruit and retain members who have the experience, energy, dedication, and passion necessary to manage the organization and ensure adequate resources to sustain the programs essential for PVA to achieve its mission.

The Polish Legion of American Veterans is an organization of veterans whose membership shall not be discriminatory on the basis of race, color, religion or national origin.

We are committed to the ideals of patriotism, charity and volunteerism through allegiance to our Country, honor of our Country's standards and aid in the rehabilitation of disabled veterans.

Our goal is to dedicate time and effort to insure that no benefits are denied to those who served their country and to support legislation intended for those who earned the right to the benefits being considered.

The Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, with its Auxiliaries, includes 2.4 million members in approximately 9,000 Posts worldwide.

Its mission is to "honor the dead by helping the living" through veterans' service, community service, national security and a strong national defense.

The purpose of Vietnam Veterans of America's national organization, the state councils, and chapters is:

-To help foster, encourage, and promote the improvement of the condition of the Vietnam veteran.
-To promote physical and cultural improvement, growth and development, self-respect, self-confidence, and usefulness of Vietnam-era veterans and others.
-To eliminate discrimination suffered by Vietnam veterans and to develop channels of communications which will assist Vietnam veterans to maximize self-realization and enrichment of their lives and enhance life-fulfillment.
-To study, on a non-partisan basis, proposed legislation, rules, or regulations introduced in any federal, state, or local legislative or administrative body which may affect the social, economic, educational, or physical welfare of the Vietnam-era veteran or others; and to develop public-policy proposals designed to improve the quality of life of the Vietnam-era veteran and others especially in the areas of employment, education, training, and health.
-To conduct and publish research, on a non-partisan basis, pertaining to the relationship between Vietnam-era veterans and the American society, the Vietnam War experience, the role of the United States in securing peaceful co-existence for the world community, and other matters which affect the social, economic, educational, or physical welfare of the Vietnam-era veteran or others.
-To assist disabled and needy war veterans including, but not limited to, Vietnam veterans and their dependents, and the widows and orphans of deceased veterans.

WAVES National (established in 1979) is a Sea Service women's organization for women who have served or are currently serving in one of the sea services; U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Coast Guard or Reserves. There are 121 active WAVES National Units in the nation.
